Dr. Ali Ozbeki brings to us over thirty years of product development experience from two different industries. He has been a business leader and technical expert with a global record of success in product development, advanced engineering, information technology, and cross functional team leadership at General Motors and BISSELL Homecare. Ali has had significant experience in creating strategies and leading global teams in product design and development in Asia, Europe, and North America, including building partnerships and joint ventures.
Ali is an expert in simulation driven design, virtual validation, and Computer Aided Engineering (CAE). He is able to develop new tools and technology that serve as the backbone for product design and development, improving quality, and reducing development time and costs. He played a vital role in the development and implementation of the virtual validation process at General Motors. He also was the key architect of institutionalizing the role of Designing Engineer at General Motors whereby the role of Designer, Release Engineer, and Simulation Engineer were combined into a single role. Ali was responsible for development and deployment of the training material for this new role.
Ali is adept at building and integrating common global technical, engineering, and business processes to enable collaboration, and at leading global projects to build new technical solutions including product design and development software. As the Director of Advanced Engineering at BISSELL Homecare, Ali played a critical role in establishment of the system engineering and technology foundations for the BISSELL family of products. He led an engineering and technology transformation and lean product development implementation globally to reach beyond the engineering function which included sourcing, manufacturing, quality and marketing. He was also responsible for overall strategy, development and implementation of the global PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) system.
Ali worked for 27 years at General Motors Corporation where he held the honor of Professional Fellow and Senior Manager, leading the evolution and implementation of the simulation-based design and high-performance computing for the Corporation. After he left General Motors in 2010, he was appointed the Director of Advanced Engineering at BISSELL Homecare. In 2012, he was appointed General Manager of BISSELL’s Asia Development Center in Shenzhen, China. In that role, in addition to managing the product development engineering team in China, he was also responsible for development center in Bangalore, India and was the corporation’s key liaison with the supplier base and manufacturing facilities in China and Korea. Ali was an adjunct professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Wayne State University between 1984 and 2014, teaching graduate level courses in the solid mechanics discipline. In 2014, he was appointed as a full time faculty member of the department.
Dr. Ozbeki holds a Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from Pennsylvania State University, an MBA from University of Detroit Mercy, and an MS in Financial Engineering from University of Michigan.
Throughout his career, Dr. Ozbeki has received numerous awards including two GM’s Chairman, two GM CIO’s and a GM Trade Secret.
